Configuración de site dentro de una sub-carpeta en servidor Digitalocean

En www.midominio.com tengo un sitio wordpress funcionando.

Ahora creamos un sub-directorio en el root, en el cual tenemos un nuevo sitio desarrollado con smarty php.

Sin embargo, al ingresar a www.midominio.com/sub-directorio arroja un error 404.

En sub-directorio hay un archivo .htaccess el cual no está siendo reconocido.

Necesitaríamos agregar nuevo sitio al virtual host y hacer todos los cambios necesarios para que el sitio esté disponible.
