Demetria is a Colombia-based startup that uses NIR (Near-Infrared) spectrometry to analyze the quality of green coffee beans. Currently, we operate manually through a handheld device that performs chemical analysis on coffee beans, allowing us to estimate the potential cup quality of a lot before roasting and tasting. However, our current solution does not enable bean-by-bean separation based on these analyses, limiting how our clients can act on the data. Our goal now is to develop the Search Machine, a system that automates or semi-automates this selection process. The technical drawing should consider the following points: Size and weight: The machine should be no larger than a microwave, approximately 30x30x30 cm, and should be a bench-top device weighing no more than 15 kg. Sensors: The spectrometers used are small (2x2 cm) and can be positioned in parallel, but the exact number is yet to be determined due to cost considerations. Bean flow: The drawing should illustrate how the beans will move through the machine, whether via tubes, conveyor belts, or another efficient mechanism. Separation mechanism: The design should clearly depict how beans will be analyzed, separated, and directed to specific storage points after evaluation. The primary focus of the technical drawing is the layout of the components, ensuring a functional and realistic structure within these physical constraints.
