We are seeking an experienced power electronics engineer to design a custom switch-mode power supply (SMPS) for a 10-slot professional analogue audio chassis. Our goal is to replace our current external linear PSU with a smaller, lighter, and more efficient switch-mode version.
Required outputs for the SMPS are:
- +16 V @ minimum 2.2 A
- -16 V @ minimum 2.2 A
- +24 V @ minimum 2.2 A
- -24 V @ minimum 2.2 A
- +48 V @ minimum 150 mA
All voltage rails must be capable of operating simultaneously. These are minimum current requirements; additional current capacity would be beneficial if practical within the design constraints.
The psu should feature universal mains input, ideally supporting 90–264 vac, 50/60 hz, to ensure worldwide compatibility.
Noise performance is critically important. The power supply will be used to power sensitive analogue audio circuits, including high-gain microphone preamps, compressors, and EQs. Therefore, switching noise, ripple, conducted emi, and radiated emi must be kept extremely low to prevent interference.
The PSU will be external and housed in its own metal enclosure. Our existing linear psu pcb measures approximately 170 × 140 mm. Ideally, the new SMPS design should fit within these dimensions or be smaller, though this is not a strict limitation. Fanless operation is strongly preferred to maintain a quiet environment.
We require a freelancer with practical experience in offline ac/dc smps design, including expertise in magnetics, pcb layout, emi/emc considerations, and thorough testing procedures.
The ultimate deliverable is a fully tested, production-ready design, which includes a complete schematic, detailed PCB design files, a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM), and all necessary manufacturing files. Prototyping and testing can be managed either by the selected developer or by our internal team, depending on the most cost-effective approach.
Safety and EMC requirements must be carefully considered throughout the design process, with compliance testing to be discussed based on cost.
Interested candidates are requested to include examples of similar SMPS design projects they have completed, along with an approximate development cost and timeline for this project.
