Sobre mí
I enjoy teaching, translating and working on different language-based projects, focusing on general and technical vocabulary in an array of academic and professional fields.

Experience in the area of languages includes:

Bachelor level Studies in languages, Hebrew and Greek, one semester of studies in Aramaic. During the course of my studies towards the Bachelor’s degree I first served as Professor’s Assistant, then as Instructor in those languages. Simultaneously I was pursuing studies in French and Latin.

During Master’s Degree studies in the United States I concentrated on the Teacher’s and Counseling track. As a Graduate, officially credited school, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary offers advanced degrees in major fields of study. In my case, that included several advanced courses in Greek and Hebrew and of course the required proficiency in English at the post graduate level. I also took a semester of German in order to fulfill the Modern and Classical languages proficiency requirements towards admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) program.

During the course of doctoral studies two of my areas of instruction and specialized studies were Literature and Greek. A great deal of work was devoted to studies in Linguistics (Transformational-Generative Grammar; Diachronic and Synchronic Methods of test interpretation; readings on the functions of language, Psycholinguistics; Structuralism; Reader-Response Theory; Form, Narrative Criticism; Narratology and

From 1974 to 1995 I served as instructor in language and in different administrative capacities. This experience has included direct work in those languages and the translation or writing of didactic materials when necessary or required by the nature of the course being taught. The main area of expertise in this aspect of my career is in the English language, which I have taught for over 20 years.

During the years of 1976 to 1978 I served as French and Latin instructor for High School students and as tutor in those languages for several university students.

In 1983 I was appointed Academic Director of The Venezuelan Baptist Theological Seminary. My responsibilities included the coordination of the studies for all the areas offered by the School. I was responsible particularly of the curricular design and supervision of the different professors. One of the main advantages of said job was the opportunity to project, develop and implement strategies for the betterment of the teaching and the application of the pedagogical, didactic techniques relevant to language training.

During the years 1989 to 1990 I served as Garrett-Fellow in the Greek Department at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, serving as instructor in that language for students pursuing Master’s Degrees.

Some other areas of involvement regarding my experience in translations and interpretation include:

From 1978 to 1992 I served as translator and interpreter for several organizations which include International Crusades Inc., from Dallas, Texas; for which I served as simultaneous translator-interpreter in conferences and other events in several countries.

From 1989 to 1991 I worked with the Honduras Baptist Medical-Dental Mission, from Petal, Louisiana, as translator and paramedic in open community clinics. The Republic of Honduras’ Board oh Welfare has awarded a Certificate of Recognition to this effect.

The Baptist Medical-Dental Fellowship, from Memphis, Tennessee, hired me during 5 years as their Translator and simultaneous Interpreter in Venezuela for conferences and open community clinics in the country. As such I was responsible during those events for simultaneous interpretation of medical, surgical lectures delivered by medical doctors and other health personnel from the United States to medical Societies and Health Professional Organizations at hospitals and medical schools in Caracas, Barquisimeto and Maracaibo. These lectures dealt with several of the medical fields and specialties; such as General, Abdomen and Chest Surgery; Oncology, Respiratory Medicine, Neonatology, Traumatology, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology and Dentistry.

I served as simultaneous Interpreter in a series of lectures presented at the Colegio de Odontólogos (The Venezuelan Dentists’ Association), Caracas, and at the Colegio de Enfermeras (Capital District Nursing Association) of the Distrito Federal. From 1993 I have worked as consultant, translator of technical papers and reports for several companies such as: Thomas Howell Group Venezuela, S. A., an affiliate of the London-based firm, in Caracas; Robins Davies Venezuela, The Swiss Reinsurance Group, from Caracas and Zurich; and Inspection Consultants in Caracas.

The main areas of interest for these companies are in the Insurance and Reinsurance, Loss Adjusting and Surveying. Translations range from Risk Analysis and Loss Reports at industrial, petrochemical and other plants, to hydroelectric and thermoelectric dams, dehydrogenating reactors and super heaters, to marine transport events.

During the last years I have translated technical papers related to insurance, reinsurance and loss adjustors, and have occupied positions as General Manager, Vice-President for Development with Export-Import concerns trading different commodities in the Caribbean and Central America areas.
