We are seeking a talented illustrator to create a captivating cover for a completed horror short story of approximately 10,000 words. The desired aesthetic is strongly influenced by vintage 1980s horror movie posters and classic Stephen King book covers from the same era. We envision a cinematic feel, reminiscent of pulp magazines, VHS-era posters, and promotional art from iconic films.
Key visual references include movie posters such as Evil Dead, Creepshow, The Evil Dead, and Christine, as well as 1980s editions of Stephen King book covers. The typography and color palette should evoke retro horror, with a controlled and balanced use of red and green tones, avoiding exaggeration.
The illustration must feature one central character, a nurse, incorporating modern elements like a cellphone. The setting should be a dark and mysterious hospital environment. This project is primarily for digital use, with the potential for future adaptation to print.
We expect the chosen illustrator to:
- Possess a strong portfolio showcasing similar work, particularly in vintage horror illustration.
- Demonstrate creativity and a keen ability to capture the specific mood and atmosphere of the story.
- Maintain clear communication throughout the project and adhere to agreed-upon deadlines.
- Deliver the final artwork in high resolution, preferably in vector format or 300 dpi in psd, tiff, or jpg formats.
