Refurbishment and repair of vintage optical A/V device

Published on the March 30, 2021 in Engineering & Manufacturing

About this project

Open

Wanted: an experienced electronics technician equipped with a Frequency Counter, Voltmeter, AF Oscillator, and Dual Trace Oscilloscope to fully recap, replace belts, and align/position the optical assembly in a vintage Pioneer CLD-1010 LaserDisc Player. Other potential work to be included.

The service manual for the player will be provided, and dictates a measurement/adjustment/alignment process for the optical components that requires checking with measurement tools such as the oscilloscope.

Project overview

I am an enthusiast and collector of vintage A/V Components and the related media. I have a Pioneer CLD-1010 LaserDisc player manufactured in 1986 with needs an adjustment/alignment of the optical assembly to resolve tracking/playback issues. Since the unit needs to be opened anyway, and has not been serviced since manufacture, I would like the entire unit recapped with higher quality components. Additionally I would like to discuss the possibility of an upgraded power supply, and potentially some other upgraded components, based on a project outlined by a "tech" on YouTube who rebuilt a player with upgrades. Those videos are available for reference. Additionally, I would like to discuss the possibility of adding a Toslink or Coaxial digital output, and AC-3 output to the unit, the procedures for which are available as instruction. Hoping for someone in Los Angeles or Ventura Counties, Southern California. Pay to be discussed.
