Despite the fact that I have got a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences in my parent route, my previous work experience along with my language skills of being very fluent in all three languages, English, Sinhala and Tamil, which is coupled with my analytical skills on handling the clients, I strongly believe I should transition myself into business and marketing field from Biomedical, to promote sales of products and services very effectively. I have completed my GCE O/Ls and A/Ls and have completed BTEC HND in biomedical sciences in BMS in Sri Lanka. Afterwards, I joined De Montfort University in Leicester, UK and completed the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Sciences in the upper- second class in 2020.
I completed a Spoken English Comprehensive Course at Oxbridge college (including IT and Language Lab) in Sri Lanka which is accreted by Edexcel Wigan, and Leigh Campus, UK Certificated from 2016 to 2017 and gained the language skills, speaking, reading, listening and writing and achieved grade A in the final exam. Further, I completed a Diploma in Information Technology (Ditech) at ESOFT Regional Campus (a Pearson assured organization) in Sri Lanka in 2019.
I followed ten days internship at Durdans Hospital Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories in Colombo, Sri Lanka from September to October 2018. Furthermore, I completed a research project in the Molecular Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Ragama, Sri Lanka from May to August 2019. Moreover, I completed research at DMU in Leicester, the UK from September 2019 to September 2020.
My degree allows me to socialize with people in group work, which includes different cultures and ages in the UK. I have improved my confidence in communicating with others and dealing with a wide variety of colleagues. Furthermore, I am trilingual (English, Sinhala, Tamil) and currently learning French online. As an international student, I regularly adapted my habit and style, dependent on the person I deal with. It helped me to show my ability to help flexibly to suit the needs of others. In my research projects, I regularly changed my work plans to support the work of my supervisor. The meetings were initiated meetings and worked flexibly within the team due to the desire the learning new things. To date, I have not got any study gap years throughout my education.
I enjoyed volunteering at Wilfrid's Church, Kibworth, Leicester, UK by supporting the works of children by creating learning strategies and also constructing academic target plans for children and motivating them to succeed.
I worked in the non-biomedical sciences-related field as well. I always like to gain experience in other fields and I have strong attention and willingness to learn and develop professionally. I held the position of cashier in an off-licensed shop part-time and enjoyed with customers by providing them with good customer service and meeting different people and experience in handling cash. I worked as a Research Assistant at EMACE Developers, Bolgoda Lakes Wetlands, Sri Lanka. It is the biggest lake in Sri Lanka and we conducted research on its relationship with the fishing industry and our responsibility to conserve wetlands for the future of fishers’ lives.
