We are seeking a talented illustrator to create a conceptual black and white illustration for a chapter on Confirmation Bias in a book aimed at young professionals.
Concept Explanation:
Confirmation bias is the tendency to seek and interpret information in a way that reinforces existing beliefs while ignoring evidence that contradicts them. This mental shortcut simplifies decision-making but often leads to flawed conclusions, reinforcing biases in leadership, business, and personal judgments.
Visual Representation Idea:
The illustration should depict a lab table with two piles of evidence. A scientist or investigator is shown sorting through lab reports. One pile should be neatly stacked with documents labeled “Supports My Hypothesis”, while another pile is overflowing in the trash, labeled “Contradictory Evidence”. This visual should symbolize how selective acceptance of data distorts conclusions.
Mood & Tone:
The desired mood and tone are cautionary and analytical, encouraging awareness of bias. It should be thought-provoking and critical, highlighting the dangers of ignoring contradictory evidence. The style should be minimalist yet impactful, using simple but powerful imagery. The illustration must be strictly black and white with high contrast to create a modern, conceptual aesthetic. The image needs to visually encapsulate the essence of the mental model in a simple yet meaningful way, providing an impactful representation without clutter.
Technical Details:
- File Formats: png, svg (with transparent background), and pdf are preferred.
- Dimensions: 120 mm x 60 mm.
- Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI.
- Color Mode: Deliverables in both cmyk and rgb color modes.
- Transparent Background: Required for all formats where applicable.
Guidance for the Illustrator:
- The image must be clear and legible at the specified size.
- Avoid excessive detail that could be lost at a smaller scale.
- Maintain strong contrast for readability, especially for print.
- Ensure consistent visual weight so the illustration remains a focal point on the page.
- Techniques: Hand-drawn, Illustration, Pen & Ink Illustration, Concept Drawing, Pencil, Line Art Illustration.
This project has the potential to expand into a full illustration series for other chapters of the book and an entire collection on mental models.
