Game Ui/Ux Artist for 3d First-Person Yu-Gi-Oh Fan Game Duel Experience

Published on the August 08, 2026 in Design & Multimedia

About this project

Open

We are seeking a talented Game ui/ux artist to design the duel experience for a non-profit fan game, inspired by yu-gi-oh (duel monsters era) and developed in unreal engine 5. The game features 3D, first-person duels with monsters on the field, moving beyond a traditional 2D simulator interface. The core rule engine is already functional; the focus of this project is on all visual aspects of the user interface and experience.

The central design challenge is to capture the ceremonial feel of the anime (e.g., The duel disk opening, monster summoning, monster appearing on the field) without making the gameplay slow or cumbersome, especially considering the approximately 200 interactions in a typical match. The goal is to streamline these interactions while maintaining the immersive aesthetic.

Scope of this fixed-price contract:
1.  One style frame: A single image depicting the duel as it should appear, from a first-person perspective, including the duel disk on the arm, a fanned hand of cards, and a monster on the field.
2.  Wireframes for the duel disk: This will serve as the entire game interface, covering elements like viewing the hand, selecting cards, summoning, and consulting the graveyard. This includes a step-by-step walkthrough of the most common action: playing a card from hand to field.
3.  Fanned hand of cards: Design how the hand of cards is displayed and interacted with while attached to the character's hand, illustrating scenarios with both 2 and 12 cards.
4.  Visual style guide: Define the color palette, typography, and a vocabulary of visual feedback (e.g., Clickable elements, targeting, opponent's elements, unavailable actions), ensuring legibility for colorblind users.

Deliverables are expected in Figma or an equivalent navigable format, accompanied by a concise document detailing design decisions. Final engine assets are not required for this phase.

The established art direction is cel shading, with all original art created in the anime style; no assets extracted from official games will be used.

A detailed briefing will be provided to selected candidates.
