About this project

Open

Renewable energy sources produce little to no global warming emissions. Renewable energy such as solar energy is becoming increasingly popular nowadays especially for a country where solar energy can be accessible every day. According to research, in the year 2016, more than 6 million Solar Home Systems(SHSs) are operational worldwide, with 25 million people benefiting from them[1].
Bangladesh is one of the largest markets with 4.5 million units installed. Due to frequent power cuts in rural areas, it is crucial to use renewable energy and monitor it. Besides, by monitoring solar panels, we can also determine the authenticity of the solar panel by looking at its efficiency.
Generally, commercially available solar panel efficiency is about 15-20%[2]. Solar Panel Measurement System is best used for the user to analyze the solar panel they are using. The system is cost-effective where a B25 0-25V Voltage sensor and ACS712 current sensor are used to detect the voltage and current generated from the solar panel.
A Rocker switch is connected between the Voltage Sensor and Current Sensor to allow the user to switch between both of them as both of the sensors cannot operate at the same time. The system will then record the maximum voltage and maximum current from both the voltage sensor and current sensor. The recorded value will then used to determine the maximum power of the solar panel.
In which users can know the maximum power the solar panel has produced. Besides, the fill factor (FF) has also been calculated by the system. The fill factor is the ratio of the maximum power from the solar cell to the product of Voc and Isc.
Eventually, the efficiency will also be determined by the solar panel measurement system. It is the percentage of solar energy that can be converted to usable energy by the solar panel. All those 7 data will be sent to the Blynk server.
Users can directly get all the data by open the Blynk app on their IOS or Android phones. An email will be sent to users to notify users if they have successfully connected the Arduino Uno R3 with the Blynk server. In addition, users will also able to view the efficiency from the 16x2 LCD display that interfaces with the Arduino Uno R3 via the I2C module.

Project overview

Refinement on the project is needed such as how to make one light source that emits the same luminous as the real sunlight have to be investigated. Any ideas are welcomed
