We are seeking a skilled freelancer to develop and implement an innovative interactive door system, EcoGame, at Holy Trinity College. The primary goal is to motivate students to turn off classroom lights, thereby reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
Problem and Chosen Space:
Many students at Holy Trinity College frequently forget to switch off classroom lights, leading to significant energy waste. Our intervention point is the main school entrance, a high-traffic area, to encourage a change in this habit.
Creative Proposal and Design:
EcoGame is an interactive door designed to transform the simple act of turning off lights into an engaging and rewarding experience. When a student exits a classroom where the lights have been successfully turned off, passing through the main door will activate a display of colorful LED lights and cheerful sounds, creating a sense of achievement, much like winning a game. Conversely, if the classroom lights are left on, the door will remain silent. This concept is based on the 'Fun Theory', aiming to make a routine daily action attractive and motivating.
Technology Application:
The system's design incorporates several key technological components:
* Motion sensor: To detect when a student passes through the door.
* Light sensor: To verify the status of the classroom lights (on or off).
* Arduino microcontroller: The central processing unit that connects and manages both sensors and output effects.
* rgb led lights and a speaker: to provide the visual animation and auditory feedback.
* Solar panel: To power the entire system, reinforcing the project's message of renewable energy and sustainability.
The operational logic is straightforward: if the light sensor confirms the classroom lights are off, the Arduino microcontroller will trigger the LED light and sound effects. If the lights are on, no effects will be activated.
Expected Impact:
We anticipate that students will genuinely enjoy the interactive experience, leading to a natural adoption of the habit of turning off lights, rather than perceiving it as a chore. This project aims to raise awareness about responsible energy consumption and demonstrate how technology can be creatively applied to foster positive behavioral changes.
