Problema em script python

Tenho um script python que pega o conteudo de um txt, e separa a primeira linha onde contem o email para enviar o arquivo txt em anexo.
Esta tudo funcionadno exceto que ele corta o primeiro caractere, exemplo
asd(arroba)emailparaenviar
dai o script esta cortando o "a" ficando sd(arroba)......
preciso fazer esse ajuste, e gostaria tambem que nesse script ja disparasse o email em smtp, pois hoje isso é feito com outro script em bash
