The purpose of this assignment is to formulate your own research question and draw from one of the conceptual frameworks discussed in class to get experience in conducting an institutional analysis. In particular for this assignment you are asked to analyze routinized practices (rules-in-use) or mode of regulation through which distributions of water are negotiated in your own environment and/or a case you are familiar with. This can for example be about negotiating access to drinking or irrigation water or getting rid of wastewater flows.
It can also be about the way the financing of water provision is organized, how the form and materiality of infrastructure mediates access, or how labor arrangements intertwine with water distributions. Focus on a topic that matters to you and for which you will be able to gather data through interviews and observations: When selecting a topic, think carefully why it matters for you to write about this topic and if the framework you select is suited to analyze this topic. If you can not do this, it is perhaps better to think of a different topic or different framework.
