Our US-Spain company is exploring the import of Spanish supplement ingredients and specialty foods into the US market. We are seeking a highly skilled researcher with a strong technical background, ideally in chemistry, chemical engineering, or food science, to undertake a paid trial project. The primary goal is to assess the viability and regulatory landscape for these products.
We expect the researcher to allocate time across the following key areas. While complete results are not the sole focus for this trial, a well-structured and insightful approach is highly valued:
Product Evaluation: Identify and analyze 3-5 promising Spanish products, which may include olive-derived extracts, various botanicals, or unique specialty foods. This involves assessing their composition, identifying active compounds, evaluating stability, understanding processing methods, and flagging potential quality risks.
Supplier Research: Compile a comprehensive spreadsheet detailing potential Spanish manufacturers. This spreadsheet should include contact information, specific products offered, relevant certifications (e.g., Organic, GMP), available documentation such as Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) and product specifications, and minimum order quantities (MOQs).
Outreach: Develop a professional inquiry email template in both Spanish and English. As an added value, contacting one or two potential suppliers to gather initial information would be highly beneficial.
US Regulatory Overview: Provide a clear summary of how each identified product would likely be classified under US regulations (e.g., As a dietary supplement or a conventional food). Additionally, highlight any potential regulatory concerns and outline the key import requirements for each product type.
Testing Protocols: Propose a detailed outline of the necessary testing for each product. This should include suggestions for accredited laboratories, approximate costs, and estimated turnaround times. Advice on whether testing should occur before export from Spain or upon arrival in the US is also required.
Labeling Compliance: Draft US-compliant label content for one or two selected products. This draft should specifically note any required changes or additions from existing eu labels to meet us regulatory standards.
