OPOS is a retail standard for interfacing to retail-specific devices such as scanners and POS printers. The standard usually uses two COM/OLE objects on Windows: a control object that applications connect to (there is a common version of this available at http://www.monroecs.com/oposccos.htm) and a service object that the common control object talks to that usually accesses the physical hardware or base windows driver.
