We are seeking experienced developers to create 'HarvestSwap', a mobile application and web platform designed to facilitate the exchange of surplus homegrown produce within local communities. The core concept is to provide a community noticeboard for fresh food, connecting individuals who have an excess of fruits, vegetables, and herbs from their gardens with others in their immediate vicinity who can use them. The platform will focus on bartering and giving, rather than selling, to foster a strong sense of community and mutual support.
Problem HarvestSwap Aims to Solve:
- Food Waste: Many home gardeners produce more than they can consume, leading to perfectly good food being composted or thrown away.
- Lack of Access to Fresh Produce: Not everyone has the space, time, or ability to garden. This platform will provide access to fresh, locally grown food for free or in exchange for other goods/services.
- Community Disconnection: Modern neighborhoods often lack strong social ties. A shared interest in food and gardening can be a powerful connector.
Key Features to be Developed:
- Listings: Users must be able to easily post what they have an excess of (e.g., "10 ripe tomatoes," "a large bunch of mint"). Posts should include photos, quantity, and a general location (e.g., Neighborhood, not a specific address).
- Map View: An interactive map feature that shows available produce in the user's area, utilizing anonymized location pins to protect privacy until a swap is initiated.
- Wishlist and Alerts: Users should be able to add items they are looking for (e.g., "Zucchini," "lemons") to a wishlist and receive notifications when someone nearby posts that item.
- Barter System: While many items will be offered for free, the application needs to facilitate bartering. For example, a user might offer tomatoes in exchange for someone else's surplus eggs or a jar of homemade jam.
- In-App Messaging: A secure chat feature will be required to coordinate safe and convenient pickup times and locations between users.
- Community Hub: A dedicated space for users to share gardening tips, recipes, and preservation techniques (like canning or pickling) to further reduce food waste and enhance community engagement.
