Google Maps - Walking Across America!

I am walking across America for charity. My route is Santa Monica Pier in California to Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I have route variations in mind that does deviate a little from the straight Google Maps walking Directions. So, with some input from me, I would like help building a walking route that has distances, hotels, stores identified along the route if possible. Something I can save if I am in a tough cell phone coverage area like the Mojave desert. Safe routes that preferabley have more paved roads (remember i cannot legally walk on the Interstate highway system) but understand some of the route will be utility access roads etc. Route really needs to come wth as much detail as possible using streetview maybe? ALso, need to share the final route with others.
