Senior Independent Mobile Engineer for Cross-Platform Consumer Wellness App (React Native)

project overview

we are hiring a senior independent mobile engineer to lead the v1 build of a cross-platform consumer wellness application targeting both ios and android. The product is currently in stealth. Full feature scope, brand identity, target user, and launch market are disclosed only after NDA signing. This post describes the engagement model, technical stack, and engineer profile we are looking for.

who we are hiring

we are looking for a senior independent individual contributor. Not an agency. Not a junior. Not a generalist consultant.

Specifically: a developer who has personally led the engineering of three or more consumer mobile applications that ship subscriptions to both the App Store and Google Play. Personal portfolio is required and will be verified. Apps where the candidate was a contributor in a larger team will not count. We are evaluating individual ownership of subscription mechanics, not team participation.

Five or more years of senior IC experience on consumer mobile applications required. Production track record on subscription consumer apps over the last twenty-four months strongly preferred.

category experience required

portfolio must include at least one live consumer wellness, health, or behavior-change application with subscription monetization. Acceptable adjacent categories include fitness, nutrition, sleep, mental wellness, habit tracking, mindfulness, hormonal health, and similar behavior-change products. Portfolios that are exclusively in unrelated categories such as productivity, finance, gaming, or B2B SaaS will be filtered out regardless of engineering quality. We need an engineer who has thought about retention loops, onboarding diagnostics, and paywall placement specifically in the wellness consumer context.

- openai or equivalent llm api for personalized user-facing content with strict prompt guardrails
- behavioral analytics platform such as posthog, mixpanel, or amplitude
- mobile attribution platform (post-idfa environment)
- sentry or equivalent for error monitoring and crash reporting
- typescript throughout the codebase

- multi-step onboarding diagnostic flow producing a personalized output before the subscription paywall
- ai-generated user-facing content delivered with prompt guardrails and confidence routing
- daily engagement loop with progress visualization and persistence mechanics
- subscription pause and resume flow with edge case handling
- push notification system supporting variable cadence
- standard app store and google play submission process
- single launch language at v1, additional locales reserved for v2 scope

engagement model

- fixed price per milestone
- ten week structured engagement
- eight milestones total
- weekly milestone gates with written acceptance criteria for each
- payment released only on milestone acceptance
- optional ten percent completion bonus paid on all milestones cleared on schedule

how to apply

your proposal must include all of the following items. Proposals missing any item will be rejected without review.

A. Personal portfolio: two to three live consumer subscription applications you personally led, each with both App Store and Google Play URLs. We will verify them.

B. Eight milestone plan across the ten week timeline, with fixed price per milestone and acceptance criteria for each. Self-quote without anchor. We are evaluating your thinking on scope sequencing.

C. On-camera Loom video, ninety seconds. Walk through how you would approach the first two weeks of the build. State your time zone and weekly availability.

D. Hourly equivalent rate, for internal calibration only.

hiring process

first-pass screening completed within five business days. Top candidates receive an NDA. Post-NDA, full product specification is shared and finalists complete a paid two-hour test task before the engagement decision is made. The test task is compensated on submission.
