We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance Backend Developer specializing in payment systems to stabilize and enhance the payment architecture for BELTZ, our SaaS platform for BJJ academies. Our platform utilizes Supabase, Vercel, Stripe Connect, and n8n. This project is critical for our upcoming launch.
The primary objective is to resolve existing payment synchronization issues and prepare our system for future payment gateway integrations and migrations. Key problems to address include:
Fixing synchronization errors where our system incorrectly interprets Stripe data, leading to discrepancies in income, student counts, and payment statuses.
Building robust ID-based user mapping between our internal database and Stripe to ensure data consistency.
Implementing direct retrieval of financial totals from Stripe to eliminate re-summing within our system and prevent discrepancies.
Developing mechanisms to prevent duplicate-charge incidents, such as stale test charges inadvertently affecting production environments.
Implementing feature flags to allow for safe and controlled enabling or disabling of payment integrations on a per-academy basis during the go-live phase.
Assisting in the planning and homologation of additional payment gateways, specifically Easy Debit and Mercado Pago, and developing a phased migration strategy for academies not yet integrated with Stripe.
Context: We operate in Australia, where regulations prevent the direct transfer of card data between payment gateways. This means that switching payment providers requires students to re-authorize their payment details. Therefore, migrations must be carefully batched and ideally executed during periods of low platform traffic to minimize disruption.
We need help with onboarding new clientes, some of them need to migrate from other gateways.
Requirements:
Proven experience with Stripe, with Stripe Connect experience being a significant advantage.
Demonstrated experience with payment and system migrations, ideally involving multiple payment gateways.
Strong skills in data synchronization and reconciliation between databases and third-party APIs.
Comfortable working with Supabase/Postgres, Vercel, and
Next.js.
Experience with implementing and managing feature flags in a production environment.
Excellent communication skills, with a willingness to document technical decisions and trade-offs clearly.
Nice to have: Familiarity with Easy Debit, GoCard, or Mercado Pago; background in fintech or subscription billing; experience with n8n.
