Experienced Spanish & Portuguese Market Researcher and Translator for Hobby Goods Study

Spanish/ Portuguese Researcher/Translator (Freelance)
(Must be based in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, or Chile)

Summary
We are seeking a bilingual Spanish / Portuguese researcher based in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, or Chile to support a 30-day project focused on mapping the hobby/toy import ecosystem in Latin America. The role includes identifying credible distributors and retailers, coordinating interviews with key industry informants, validating findings through brief fact-checks from publicly available sources, and providing light translation support (es/pt → en). This is a fixed-payment freelance engagement.

Role & Responsibilities:
• Identify and shortlist credible local players who import or sell Japanese hobby and toy goods
• Source, contact, and schedule 2 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with:
(1) Importer or distributor association members/officers
(2) Retail chain store managers or owners handling hobby/toy products
• Provide local context checks on operational or regulatory challenges affecting toy/hobby imports
• Validate interview insights by adding brief factual notes from local news, trade discussions, or public reports
• Provide basic translation support for short emails or notes (Spanish/Portuguese → English)

Deliverables
•Interview Support Package, including:
- Contact list of confirmed and backup respondents
- Scheduled interview calendar
• Local Insights Note (1 page) summarizing:
– Common operational challenges affecting importers and retailers
– Recurring issues mentioned by interviewees
– Key clarifications on country-specific logistics realities
• Optional: 10–15 minute debrief with ARC researcher, if needed
• No tariff verification, HS code research, or government documentation analysis required

Qualifications
• Background in market research, and academic research, preferably in sociology or psychology
• Experience in retail operations, logistics, supply-chain, or importer coordination (preferred but not required)
• Familiarity with local distributor and retail networks for consumer goods, toys, hobby items, or collectibles
• Comfortable reaching out to businesses, conducting outreach, and scheduling interviews
• Strong communication skills in Spanish and Portuguese, with proficiency in English for reporting
• Ability to summarize findings clearly and concisely
• Reliable internet connection and ability to meet tight turnaround times
• Located in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, or Chile (required)
