Architect Assistant – Permit Management & Client Follow-Up An Architect Assistant responsible for permit management, client follow-ups, and reviewing comments should have a mix of technical knowledge, organizational skills, and communication abilities. Below are the key requirements and qualifications for this role: 1. Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree or coursework in architecture, construction management, or a related field (preferred but not always required). Experience in permit processing, project coordination, or administrative support within an architecture or construction firm is a plus. 2. Key Responsibilities: Permit Management: Prepare and submit permit applications for various projects. Track permit approvals, expiration dates, and extensions. Maintain an organized database of permits and ensure compliance with city requirements. Client Follow-Up & Communication: Keep clients updated on their permit status, review progress, and required corrections. Serve as the point of contact between clients, city officials, and consultants. Address client concerns related to permits and timelines. Review & Coordination: Check plan review comments from city planning and building departments. Coordinate with architects and engineers to address corrections and resubmit plans. Monitor feedback from local agencies and ensure requirements are met. 3. Skills & Competencies: ✔ Understanding of Permit Processes – Familiarity with local building codes, zoning laws, and submittal requirements (especially for San Diego). ✔ Detail-Oriented & Organized – Ability to track multiple permits, deadlines, and agency feedback efficiently. ✔ Communication Skills – Clear and professional communication with clients, government agencies, and team members. ✔ Problem-Solving Ability – Proactively resolve permit issues and find solutions to compliance challenges. ✔ Technical Knowledge – Basic ability to read architectural drawings, zoning regulations, and review comments. ✔ Proficiency in Software – Experience with permit tracking software, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and city permit portals (e.g., San Diego's DSD Portal). 4. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience dealing with San Diego Development Services or other local municipalities. Knowledge of California Building Code (CBC) and permit submission procedures. Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, or other drafting tools (not mandatory but helpful). Bilingual (English & Spanish) is a plus for communicating with a diverse client base. 5. Work Environment & Expectations: Hybrid or in-office role, depending on company needs. Regular follow-ups with city officials and clients via email, phone, or in-person visits. Ability to work under deadlines and adapt to changing project timelines.
